Pizza Math

How much attention did you pay in geometry class? That’s where the answer to what size pizza is the best value can be found. If you’re deciding between two small pizzas or one medium, remember the formula for finding the surface area of a circle: pi (3.14) times radius squared

Take the radius (half the diameter) of the pizza—4 inches for a small, 6 inches for a medium—and then multiply the answer by 3.14. That means your 8-inch baby pizza has a surface area of a little over 50 square inches, while the 12-inch medium pizza has a surface area of 113 square inches. The pizza math shows that one medium pizza is bigger than two baby pizzas.

What size pizza is the best value? A Salerno’s medium starts at $16.25, while two babies are $21.90. So get that medium pizza!
